56 Yr Old Jack Akins only player in RED numbers...wins $2695 from record 73 player field with a net score of 70 at Waterchase
Congratulations to 7 year FairWay Tour vet Jack Akins, who won both the Net and Sr. Net divisions and was the only player to break net par with a score of 70 at Waterchase GC in Arlington, TX. The 5 handicap has battled health issues on and off since becoming a member in January 2005 but that didn't stop him on this day as he won the event by 2.3 strokes over second place finisher Dax Gregg. Jack played the tips and shot a gross score of 75 to take home $2695. The weather turned out to be quite nice in the afternoon with diminishing winds and a temperature in the mid-50's...but the early tee times were a bit unfavorable. The temperature was 39 degrees with a 15 mph NW breeze when the first group headed to the #1 tee box. 19 spots were paid and the last place money winner, zero handicapper Logan Waldrip, shot a net and gross score of 76, which was also good enough for 2nd place in the Scratch Division. The 73 player SINGLE FLIGHT event was the largest ever in the 11 year history of the tour. Be sure to check out the new look website and Red River Points Race...don't forget how to get the MOST points: *50 POINTS FOR MEMBERSHIP RENEWAL. *15 points for signing up by Monday prior to event *10 pts for signing up by Thursday prior (space available) *5 pts for signing up after Thursday (space available) *5 points for paying online deposit or full entry by Wednesday prior to event. As a special footnote, the tour was honored to have 7-time PGA Tour winner and current Champions Tour player Bill Glasson as one of its participants for this event. The goal of the USGA when they established the handicap system was to create an even field for competition so a player like Glasson, with a +3 handicap, can compete against the 7 handicapper working a full time job. The FairWay Golf Tour accomplished that goal on Saturday. This tour is quickly gaining a reputation in the region as THE BEST GOLF COMPETITION NO MATTER YOUR SKILL LEVEL, as long as you are a 12 or less HCP! If Bill Glasson recognizes the value of quality competition, then we hope you will too! Join us at the course soon because "IF YOU DON'T TEE IT UP YOU CAN'T WIN!"
