Gatz captures Super Major #1 title and $12,000 with net score of 143.4

Michael Gatz, a 3.3 handicap from Union City, Oklahoma fired a 1 over par 73 on Sunday for a net score of 69.7 and a total score of 143.4 on the beautiful and difficult par 144 Dye course at Stonebridge CC to capture his first major on the FairWay Tour. The $12,000 Mike collected (as we reported earlier in the week could happen with a full field of 48 players) set a record for a single player in a single event on the tour...Congratulations Michael! The course was as playable as a 76.6/146 rated course could be with hot, benign conditions and soft, perfect greens. Even so, only three players broke net par (all by less than 1 stroke) in what was essentially a photo finish as Bobby Stark took 2nd with a net score of 143.6 and Derek Watson third at 143.7. A net score of +6 was good enough to cash last place money even with the great, yet hot conditions and very tolerable pace of play as the field went out in threesomes. We want to thank the Head Pro, Joe Menton, for doing an absolutely splendid job of providing the best service possible for our event. We hope to see you soon because "IF YOU DON'T TEE IT UP YOU CAN'T WIN"!
