78.3 cashes at Thorntree as club member Melendrez wins $1800

Thorntree CC member Sam Melendrez won his second event of the season at his home track Saturday. His net score of 71.2 was more than 2 strokes clear of the field, which is a rarity on the FairWay Tour. Add Saturday's result to his Major #1 victory at Thorntree earlier this year and we can call it a dominant performance on his home track in 2012. Great job Sam! Three main factors determine scoring on the FairWay Tour: 1.) Course conditions 2.) Size of field 3.) Quality of field. Yesterday was an example of a tough course with a smaller field and very few scratch players. As a result, 78.3 was good enough to cash a check. Earlier this year at Trails of Frisco we had our first Super Major. The course was soaked (ball played "up" thru the green and bunkers were declared unplayable...a bit of bad luck for the tour's biggest ever event to date!), there were more than 60 players and over a dozen scratch players. As a result, the scores were extremely low. What you very rarely see on The FairWay Tour is one or two players separating themselves from the field. The tour is now in its final month of a record setting season. There are two 1-day events remaining on the calendar along with one Major (The Tribute Nov 3rd) and one Super Major (WinStar Nov 17th). If you wish to play the event at The Tribute Nov 3rd, please register by the Monday prior to this event as the course is requiring a final count by that time. Players are welcome to enter the 2-day Major or the 1-Day Net event either day. We hope to see you at the course because "If You Don't Tee It Up You Can't Win!"
